I am inspired by the rituals and stories that my ancestors carry and hold within my bloodline, spirituality, and in nature,
especially the body as an altar.

For this project, I created a headdress based on the Cherokee Chiefs and the Intersectionality of Native American and Caribbean Culture in the New Orleans Area. I decided to take on the idea of migration, power roles, and gender roles into my piece. Mardi Gras was created from this merge, and the headdress full of feathers, the colors, and the choice of florals ad birds highlight these themes. Native American Chiefs are male, and I wanted to take this role and put it on a woman, which is seen in the photograph and the pedestal. The garments reflect the rococo theme of beauty and feminine power of women, how suppression is interchanged into power.

Ostara is the time when I created and exhibited this project, and my goal was to combine my Native American and Caribbean spirituality into a mini wearable alter, which is the headpiece, as well as on the pedestal. Feathers, florals, and braids represent protective elements within my culture and my craft, The use of feathers is very personal within my project, as it plays into migration, travel, and community.

Pictures were also shot by me on my Canon Camera, my art is modeled by Vesti Graine.
