Eclipse City, 2024
Eclipsed City is created from rescued denim, donated fabrics, yarn, jewels, and thrifted fabrics. Eclipse City showcases my story of spirituality and identity, upcycling found fabrics and materials to create a 2 in 1 quilt and skirt. Being completely handsewn by me, I am spiritually a part of my work. Being inspired by Faith Ringgold’s "Tar Beach 2" , the imaginary of the moons and cityscape tell the story of my spiritual journey as a black woman of color from youth to now in my early 20s. Nature elements highlight the many spiritual transformations and shifts that I have been through, traveling to different physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual spaces for the past years. As a woman of color who practices spirituality, it is important for me to create a space for yourself and others to feel accepted and to explore ourselves as practitioners. This art can be wearable as well, relating to how I wear my black spiritualist and witch identity and story with pride!
This piece was a part of my college campus' artist gallery exhibition: Department of Art and Design Juried Exhibition 2024, currently in Finley Hall Gallery at Montclair State University.
