My creation, “Womban Wardrobe” is a Wearable Sculptural Artwork reflecting the theme of Black Woman Birth in the World. Birth is a process in which a woman nurturers and heals herself, creating spiritual and physical newness through raw femininity and masculinity. This wearable sculpture captures the aspects of life, where there is decay, there is birth. The womb is where everything is created and to honor the word Womban means to one your own essence of birth and destruction. This artwork is 100% sustainable, creating newness from something that has “decayed”, in this case, giving fabrics and pieces of clothing a new story, birthing a garment from the womb sustainable and the aspect of nurturing oneself. To nurture is to Mother, and to Mother is to create..The colors and fabrics I chose represent tactile elements that are calming on the brain, sending neurological sensors to our brain and memory.
“I honor Mother Gaia through this process of creating Womban Wardrobe.”
I had the beautiful experience of being an artist and curator for the exhibition: “Reflections” by The Department of Art and Design at Montclair State University for Integrative Studio II, taking place in Finley Gallery at Montclair State University.
