Anacia Sessoms: Artist Thesis

I am an Afro-Indigenous and Caribbean Artist, Fashion Designer, and Stylist who upcycles textiles and objects into 2-in-1 wearable and functionable artworks! With my work involving the themes of spirituality, sustainability, and textile waste, I create my work through various mediums and practices. I handcraft and hand sew all of my work. I have been featured as a designer with my brand Enchantment Of Gardens in New York Fashion Week, Harlem Fashion Week, Sustainable Fashion Week, Newark Fashion Week Festival, and more. Being based in NJ and NYC, I have connected so much with the and and its sustainable and spiritual offerings.

Themes I display in my artwork include Multimedia Sustainability and Found materials (Nature, Toys, Film, Photography-developed and undeveloped, footage, books, cultural practices), Native American Cherokee Culture, Caribbean Culture, and Witchcraft. Through my art, I explore my creation processes through Handcrafting and Hand sewing my alters, ceramics, garment creation, 3D wearable fabric sculptures, floor art, and woven alters.
